Planet Word (planetwordmuseum.org)
A preview of the first email in The Weekly Wordsmith newsletter. View it in full here.
In my position at Planet Word, my content development strategy is primarily composed of two parts:
• Building brand reputation as an expert source on language-related topics with original researched content and contributions from Advisory Board members;
• Strategically repurposing content to build community and engagement across media platforms.
The Weekly Wordsmith, a newsletter I conceptualized, designed, and built for Planet Word starting in 2025, is a year full of weekly content featuring word etymologies, fun facts about language, puzzles created by the editor of The Journal of Wordplay, and guest contributions from language experts on the museum’s Advisory Board. Designed to be evergreen, it is intended to reach people at the loyalty stage of the marketing funnel, building a subscriber base eager to start the week learning about words and language.
The newsletter strategically repurposes the museum’s signature etymology content from social media, engages expert Advisory Board members, and drives engagement with Planet Word’s blog, past programs, and Bookshop.org storefront. The newsletter has an average open rate of 63.6%, an average click rate of 4%, and it achieved 52% growth within its first three months.
The Planet Word Blog includes both timely and evergreen posts, such as messages from the founder, Q&As with language experts, guest posts from members of the museum’s Advisory Board, listicles, and short explorations of specific topics.

WesterosCraft (westeroscraft.com)
In my position at WesterosCraft, I primarily use content to reinforce and build community, whether it is through designing new merchandise based on community in-jokes or producing a digital community magazine. Each element of my content development strategy serves these goals and reinforces the values held dear by the community, such as the global community’s commitments to diversity and research-based design.
The Rookery, WesterosCraft’s quarterly digital magazine, provides a space for community members to share their knowledge and passion and gives the community something to look forward to every few months. The magazine also helps WesterosCraft’s external audience learn more about community and move down the funnel to possibly joining. Each issue contains:
• Community-submitted articles and images;
• Server news and updates;
• Contest announcements;
• Showcases of completed and in-progress projects.
As leader of a team of 6, I write and edit on average 7 articles and design on average 15–17 spreads every quarter, while also coordinating with other contributors to get copy and images for articles. The design of The Rookery combines medieval accents with a bold modern style, echoing the server's merging of medieval fantasy with modern technology.
As of March 2026, I have produced 26 issues, and The Rookery has accumulated a total of over 5000 readers.
